Standards & Technical Reports (STIR) … How to Access

One of the major benefits of being an ABYC member is the ability to access our Standards & Technical Information Reports for Small Craft. These standards are available in the following formats to members and non-members can purchase the Standards by going to the ABYC Ship Store tab on the ABYC home page under the Books/CD tab.

  1. Via Web-STIR (Standards & Technical Information Reports/STIR) which is ABYC’s online version of all the standards. (See Instructions How to Enter below.) Members can access WebSTIR (which is hosted by Rulefinder.net) by going to the Members Only website link and entering your member number and last name.

  2. CD-Rom is a convenient format which offers computer access to ABYC's Standards and Technical Information Reports as well as the U.S. Coast Guard's Rules and Regulations for Recreational Craft and excerpts from the Code of Federal Regulation. It also includes the ABYC Comparison Reports in addition to the USCG's Compliance Guidelines.

  3. Standards Manual is a 1,200 page bound manual with all ABYC’s Standards and is an excellent resource for all marine professionals.

It is important to remember that each year any number of documents may be updated or revised. In order to have the most up-to-date information you must be an active ABYC member by renewing your membership annually. For the CD-Rom and Manual annual updates may be purchased by members for a small fee and non-members can also obtain the Standards for an additional cost.
