ABYC & AMTECH Team to Hold Supporting
Back-to-Back Educational Sessions

November 10, 2004 Edgewater, MD; Orlando, FL: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) and the Association of Marine Technicians (AMTECH) will be coordinating select educational courses over the next several months.

The ABYC Basic Marine Engines course is scheduled for December 6 - 8, 2004 at the Holiday Inn in Seattle, WA, and is followed by the Gasoline Engine & Support Systems Certification course on December 9 - 10, 2004 and AMTECH's Management Training for Marine Businesses on December 11 - 12 at the same location.

The Basic Marine Engines course is a three-day seminar designed for the less experienced engine technician, marine surveyor and anyone interested in the basics of trouble-shooting, maintaining and installing marine engines. The essentials of both gasoline and diesel fueled engines and related systems will be covered, and the cost is $449 for ABYC members and $609 for nonmembers.

The two-day Gasoline Engine & Support Systems Certification course, which follows the Basic Marine Engines course is designed for experienced marine gasoline engine technicians, or those who have attended the three-day Basic Engines course. Cooling systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, control systems, ignition systems and drive systems as they pertain to gasoline engines. This class concludes with the ABYC certification exam. The cost for this course is $425 for ABYC members and $585 for nonmembers. Those attending both ABYC courses will receive a $139 discount.

The two-day Management Training for Marine Businesses workshop, which immediately follows ABYC's programs is geared towards all marine managers, from General Manager to Sales Manager to Service Manager and anyone that deals directly with the consumer or operates a marine business. The first day concentrates on basic business skills needed to run any business successfully, and day two, attendees will learn how to put these management skills into operation. Shop budgeting, flat rates, service writing, inventory control, time management, shop equipment, training, labor rates and more will also be covered. This course is a must for anyone operating a marine business. The cost for the AMTECH Management workshop is $240 for AMTECH members and $265 for nonmembers.
