ABYC 2006 Schedule of U.S. Certification and Seminars Released
Demand Grows for Standards-based Technical Education and Training
November 9, 2005, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) today released its 2006 schedule of certification and seminar courses. Based on industry demand, these ABYC courses are now available both nationally and internationally. In addition to scheduled training, ABYC courses and seminars can be hosted at any location upon request as long as the host-site ensures a minimum of 15 students are registered and paid 30 to 45 days prior to the scheduled training start date.
"We are excited to be offering over 35 courses in 2006, which includes our newest certification course - Marine Systems Certification," said Bonnie Barsa, ABYC Education Director. "Boats are more complex than ever before - in their electrical and mechanical systems, and composite materials used in construction. It is crucial for technicians to stay current, and therefore, we strive to offer as many of our standards-based education programs across the country and around the globe to meet an ever growing demand for standards-based education - whether it be in a classroom or at a facility."
In addition to the 2006 schedule, ABYC will conduct classes upon request internationally. "Whether it be Asia, Canada, Europe or South America, we will go anywhere there is a demonstrated need and appreciation for marine standards-based technical education and training," stated Skip Burdon, ABYC's President. "Having ABYC educated and trained technicians is a clear sign to the consumer that boating safety is a priority within your organization, whether you are a builder, a repair facility or marina, a surveyor, or a engine/drive systems or accessory manufacturer. Building and training to industry standards enhances the total boating experience and helps mitigate risk - it just makes sound business sense," concluded Burdon.
Registration information and detailed descriptions for any of the courses can be found at http://www.abycinc.org/calendar/index.cfm, or to host an ABYC course in your area, contact the ABYC Education department at (410) 956-1050.
ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as education and certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM, online (Web-STIR) and in printed form. Membership and general information can be requested by visiting the ABYC web site at www.abycinc.org.
