ABYC Introduces the Latest Addition to Standards Product Line:

"Web-STIR", the Web-based Standards & Technical Information Reports (STIR)

October 14, 2004, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) announced that in addition to rolling out the 2004 50th Anniversary edition of the ABYC Standards & Technical Information Reports on CD-ROM, the online version of the standards, also known as "Web-STIR", is also now available for purchase by members. Web-STIR, or web access to the Standards & Technical Information Reports (STIR) is the natural evolution of the single-user and network license standards products for the ABYC Standards & Technical Information Reports.

Access for users is convenient and because Web-STIR lives online, no action is required to install yearly updates when you purchase Web-STIR. Other advantages for users of Web-STIR include:

  • Always-on with your web connection
  • Access web-based standards from any location, not just your network
  • Any number of users may access Web-STIR at one time depending upon the number of user options selected
  • Search, copy, paste and print capabilities
  • Free access to the Rules and Regulations for Recreational Boats (CFR), as well as all 5 ABYC Compliance Guidelines and Comparison Reports

"ABYC members now have three different format choices to receive the ABYC Standards in: manual, CD-ROM and Web-STIR," stated John Adey, ABYC Technical Director. "Accessibility to the our technical standards is one of our highest priorities," continued Adey. "This is just another step ABYC is taking to provide the marine industry with the tools necessary to ensure quality product and workmanship," concluded Adey.

ABYC will have information about Web-STIR in their booth at IBEX, or you may call the ABYC Membership office at (410) 956-1050 to discuss purchasing Web-STIR, or the upgrade of your CD-ROM to Web-STIR.

ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM and in printed form. Membership and general information can be requested by calling (410) 956-1050 or by visiting the ABYC website at www.abyinc.org.
