Premier ABYC/Structural Composites, Inc. Composite Boat Building Certification Course (CBBC) to be Held at IBEX 2003
September 25, 2003, Edgewater, MD: The premier presentation of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) / Structural Composites, Inc., "Composite Boat Builder Certification (CBBC)", will be held at this year's International Boatbuilders' Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) in Miami, FL. The certification course will be held on Monday, October 27 and Tuesday, October 28, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. on both days. The certification exam will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. 12 noon.
The certification program is specifically geared to provide boat builders with a thorough understanding of marine composite construction. Scott Lewit, President of Structural Composties, Inc. and a leading instructor in composites education will be teaching the course at IBEX, as well as future ABYC composite certification programs. Topics covered in the course will be:
- Materials in use today;
- Production and advanced manufacturing processes;
- Structural details and hardware installation;
- Quality assurance; and
- Safety and environmental compliance.
At the completion of the course, and with a passing score on the exam, attendees will earn a designation of ABYC Composite Boat Builder Certification. Participants can attend the premier IBEX presentation of this course for free, but there is a $250 fee to take the certification exam (includes the manual and testing fees).

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for nearly 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians.
