ABYC AnnouncesThree Staff Additions

September 3, 2003, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has recently hired three new Technical Department staff members. Eric Johnson, John Kanaskie and Brandy Merson all joined ABYC over the summer and will be reporting directly to John Adey, Technical Director at ABYC.

Eric Johnson, the first of two Assistant Technical Director's hired at ABYC, will be overseeing the following Project Technical Committees (PTC's): Engine & Powertrain, Fuel & Ventilation, Gas Detectors, Hull & Deck Structures, Thermal Appliances, Technical Information, and Reinforced Plastics. Johnson has a degree in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina and was previously employed with the Maryland Environmental Service.

John Kanaskie who also assumed the role of Assistant Technical Director, will be overseeing the remaining PTC's, which include: Battery Chargers, Boat Service, Control Systems, Electrical, Fire Fighting, Generator Sets, Hull Piping, Navigation Lights, and Regrigeration & Air Conditioning. Kanaskie has a degree in Economics from St. Mary's College in Maryland and worked at UK Sailmakers in Annapolis before joining ABYC.

Brandy Merson, Technical Department Coordinator will be the point of contact for all Technical Department communication. She holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Anne Arundel Community College and is currently working towards her Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Strayer University.

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for going-on 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs fro marine technicians.
