August 10, 2004, Edgewater, MD: The ABYC Foundation recently announced the addition of JJ. Marie, President and CEO of Zodiac of North America, to its Board of Directors.
Skip Burdon, President of ABYC and Secretary of the ABYC Foundation Board stated, "I am delighted to welcome JJ. to the ABYC Foundation's Board of Directors." "JJ. is recognized for his long-term, dedicated work within both ABYC and other industry-related safety organizations, and after his retirement from the ABYC Board, coming aboard the ABYC Foundation Board was a natural progression," stated Burdon. "The rich and diverse public service and business experience that JJ. brings to the Foundation Board makes him a valuable addition as the Foundation prepares to kick off a giving campaign in September to celebrate ABYC's 50th Anniversary," concluded Burdon.
As President and CEO of Zodiac of North America, Marie is in charge of the company that distributes Zodiac, AVON, and Bombard inflatable boats, RIBs and life rafts to recreational, commercial and military markets in North America, Central America and the Caribbean. He has been strongly involved in standards development for the marine industry and has received many distinguished service awards such as the ABYC Service Award, the Public Service Award from the National Association of Boating Law Administrators and the Charles F. Chapman Memorial Award. He has held leadership positions in several top marine organizations, including the Coast Guard Foundation, National Marine Manufacturers Association's (NMMA) Board of Directors, National Association of Boat Manufacturers Board of Directors, United States Marine Safety Association and the National Boating Safety Advisory Council.
"The ABYC Board of Directors created the ABYC Foundation, with an overall goal of strengthening ABYC's mission," said Marie. "I am looking forward to developing partnerships with other marine organizations, government agencies and individuals, on behalf of the ABYC Foundation. Our goal is to provide ABYC with much-needed resources to positively impact boating safety well into the 21st Century."
