John Adey Appointed Technical Director at ABYC
June 11, 2003, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has promoted John Adey, Assistant Technical Director, to Technical Director.
Adey joined the Technical Division after much diversified marine experience including yacht brokerage, leasing and financing, marine computer applications and retail marine supply store. John received his B.A. degree in Business Administration from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA.
As Technical Director, Adey will be responsible for managing and administering all aspects of the technical program at ABYC. The scope of responsibility extends from managing ABYC's standards program, to directing ABYC's involvement with the International Organization of Standardization (ISO). Adey will also be overseeing program development, strategic planning, staffing and budget input, educational program interaction, contract and grant management, technical research, technical testing and analysis, policy development and enactment, and developing and promulgating ABYC's position on emerging issues of interest to the marine industry.
Philippe Ras, the incumbent Technical Director recently stepped down from this position. "Philippe has done a tremendous job for both ABYC and the industry over the past few years, but, he recently made the difficult decision to focus more of his energies in other areas," explained Skip Burdon, ABYC's President. "Although we will certainly miss Philippe, he has fully prepared John to take on the challenges and reigns of the technical division," concluded Skip Burdon, ABYC's President.
