Important ABYC Member Benefit

In 2003 the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology (also known as the Westlawn School of Yacht Design) became a non-profit affiliate of the American Boat & Yacht Council enabling ABYC business members to receive a discount on Westlawn courses and programs. Qualifying members can now take courses to further their careers or interests and learn about yacht design and construction on their own schedule at a reduced rate. Since 1930 Westlawn has prepared thousands of men and women to meet the exciting challenges of creating new and better sail and power boats. The two organizations share office space in Annapolis, MD but, Westlawn’s main headquarters is in Eastport, Maine.

There are not many alternatives to Westlawn for aspiring yacht designers as schools of naval architecture typically gear their curricula towards training students in the design work of large, seagoing vessels vs. boats under 60 meters long which is what is Westlawn’s specialty. The opportunity to provide the industry with more affordable and comprehensive professional education and training is what the ABYC-Westlawn partnership is all about.

To learn more about Westlawn please call 207-853-6600 or visit the Westlawn website at www.westlawn.org.
