Increase Support of ABYC and Boating Safety
May 28, 2003, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) today announced that two of its members recently renewed their long-standing commitment to boating safety by increasing their annual membership support levels to the standards setting organization.
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., increased their membership to a Silver Level, and has been an ABYC member since 1997. Honda has produced 4-stroke outboards for nearly 40 years, with its current line including models from 2 to 225 hp.
Charles Marine & Industrial Group, Charles Industries, Ltd., has increased their membership level from Silver to Silver Plus, and has been an ABYC member since 1995. Charles president and CEO Joseph T. Charles said, "Charles Industries is deeply committed to supporting ABYC and other organizations that have a direct bearing on safety standards for our products and standards which extend to the production, service and repair segments." Charles continued, "ABYC has led the way in developing, writing and updating safety standards for boat building and repair, and is actively involved with the development of international standards as well as certification programs for marine technicians." "I am confident that through our support, and other marine manufacturers, the marine industry will further benefit from ABYC's efforts, and continue to attract increased support and membership," concluded Charles.
