ABYC Promotes Judith Ramsey to Director of Membership

April 16, 2008, Annapolis, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has announced that Judith Ramsey has been promoted to Director of Membership for the organization. A 10-year employee of ABYC, Ramsey most recently served as the organization's Manager of Customer Service and the Editor of the membership's technical journal, the Reference Point.

Since joining ABYC in 1998, Judith has been responsible for a wide range of membership and customer service activities, including the highly successful transition from the ABYC membership newsletter to the technical journal, the Reference Point. In her new role as Director of Membership, Judith will continue to build on her experience with ABYC and be responsible for nurturing relationships with existing members, identifying and enrolling new members, creating new member benefits and products, and educating people on the benefits of becoming an ABYC member. Her previous employers include Heritage Books, a genealogical publisher, the San Diego Girl Scout Council, and the U.S. House of Representatives, all of which have helped prepare her for the diverse tasks she performs at ABYC.

Skip Burdon, President of ABYC said, "If you have ever called in to, or stopped by the ABYC office, you have most definitely spoken with Judith. She has been a dedicated employee of ABYC for ten years now, and she knows the organization inside and out. With her intimate knowledge of ABYC and her gracious demeanor when working with our members, we are confident that Judith will help build a stronger membership base. I couldn't be more pleased to have her take on these added responsibilities!"

Bob Wiggans, ABYC's previous Director of Membership has taken a position with the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America, Inc. in Washington, DC.

ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as education and certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM, online (Web-STIR and the ABYC Standards Powered by Rulefinder.net) and in printed form. Membership and general information can be requested by visiting the ABYC Web site at www.abycinc.org.
