ABYC Membership Serves as a Resource for Integrated Marine Supply Members
April 6, 2005, Edgewater, MD: To assist their membership in making informed decisions about standards-based service and repair options for their boat and to enhance their member services, Integrated Marine Supply, a consumer based "concierge service" of yachting equipment and supplies, is now offering an "Individual" American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) membership at an agreed consumer service group rate.
Leo Orenstein, CEO of Integrated Marine Supply, said, "We strive to support our members with accurate dependable information and service. ABYC provides the reference standard in the marine industry. If our members join ABYC at the Individual level, they will have access to lists of certified trained technicians and technical information at whatever level they want it, access to truly relevant publications, opportunities to gain further education in the marine field, and numerous other applicable benefits. Why would we as an organization and our individual members not join?"
Sharon Busker, ABYC Membership Director said, "ABYC realizes that there are occasions when boat owners would like to have maintenance or repairs performed on their boat, require the services of a surveyor to inspect a potential purchase, or need access to other consumer services ABYC members can provide. We feel it is important for them not only to know what ABYC is, but also how our standards can positively impact boating safety, which ultimately contributes to an enjoyable boating experience. We are very pleased that Integrated Marine Supply has come onboard as a Participating Member and that they will be promoting ABYC members and membership to their consumer-based members in addition to their current concierge services."
"This is a perfect example of how members can help provide goods and services to other ABYC members. It's a win for members of Integrated Marine Supply, a win for all ABYC members who provide goods and services and a win for promoting boating safety. 'Members helping Members'…it's a concept we are just beginning to build upon," Skip Burdon, ABYC's President enthusiastically concluded.
ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM and in printed form. Membership and general information can be requested by calling (410) 956-1050 or by visiting the ABYC web site at www.abyinc.org.
