New Value-Added Member Services Available on ABYC's Web Site
March 8, 2004, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) announced that it has added several new features to its recently re-designed web site www.abycinc.org. In an effort to continually improve the site's utility and value for ABYC members, marine professionals and the boating public, the following new features are accessible to both members and non-members.
- ABYC Membership Directory Visitors can now enter searchable criteria to view a listing of all ABYC members opting to be listed in the business directory. You can enter as much or as little information criteria as you like. ABYC members are also able to log-in to a separate "Members Only" directory to receive more detailed information on other business members.
- ABYC Certified Marine Technician Directory Using the new directory, visitors can also search for ABYC certified technicians in their area that have opted to be listed. ABYC has five, standards-based certification programs (Electrical, Refrigeration/AC, Gasoline & Diesel Engines, Marine Corrosion and Composite Boat Building) that are all recognized as an important factor in improving the quality of installation and repair work on small craft in accordance with ABYC standards. Those listed in this directory have demonstrated proficiency in their designated area by taking the ABYC certification course(s) and passing the corresponding certification exam.
- ABYC Standards Accreditation Directory In addition to becoming ABYC certified in one or more of the above designated areas, a marine professional can take the three-day ABYC Standards Accreditation course, which is a comprehensive exploration and familiarization of ABYC's standards. Those who have taken this course, passed the exam and have opted to be included in this directory can be located by clicking the "Education Programs" tab on the ABYC home page.
- ABYC Apparel & Accessories at the "Ship's Store" In addition to being able to purchase a variety of ABYC and other marine publications currently available at ABYC's online store, ABYC apparel and accessories are also now for sale. ABYC's casual marine gear is available in a selection of featured high-quality brands and styles. All transactions are secure.
"ABYC's new web site has proven to be a valuable tool to communicate with and serve our members and the boating public," remarked Skip Burdon, ABYC's President. "We are planning to add a number of new features and tools on a regular basis, something we believe will provide even more reason to join the ABYC family After all, its all about adding value, serving our membership and the industry," Burdon concluded.
ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM and in printed form. To order the CD-ROM, you may call ABYC at (410) 956-1050 or by visiting the ABYC web site at www.abycinc.org.
