ABYC Offering Much Anticipated
CE Requirements & ISO Standards Seminar

March 17 - 19, 2003 in Annapolis, Maryland

February 25, 2003, Edgewater, MD: In response to a growing demand for continuing education surrounding the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) European requirements for recreational craft, the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has scheduled its first-ever "Exporting to Europe: CE Requirements & ISO Standards" seminar for March 17 - 19, 2003 at the Sheraton Barcelo in Annapolis, MD.

In addition to introducing participants to the ISO European requirements for recreational craft, this three-day course will also highlight and review the necessary documentation required to successfully market in the European Community (CE). The seminar is designed for individuals familiar with regulations and standards compliance issues, however no prior knowledge of ISO standards is necessary. This is an excellent educational opportunity for boat builders, naval architects, surveyors and anyone intending to market their boats or services in the European Community.

Industry experts, Uli Heinemann, Jack Horner, Tom Marhevco, Rob Schofield, Ed Sherman and Mike Vollmer will be presenting the following topics:

  • Proper documentation, including retention;
  • Specific contacts in the European Community;
  • Owner's manual requirements;
  • Concepts that drive the European Certification initiative; and
  • A detailed review of ISO standards used in support of the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD).

Registration:
The registration fee for this seminar is $595 for ABYC members, and $750 for non-members. To register for this program and view a full course description, please visit the ABYC Web Site at www.abycinc.org or call (410) 956-1050. Space is limited.

ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for nearly 50 years and is actively involved with the development of international standards as well as certification programs for marine technicians. These standards are available on CD-ROM and in printed form. Membership and general information can be requested by calling (410) 956-1050 or by visiting the ABYC Web Site at www.abycinc.org.
