ABYC Elects New Directors to Board
February 23, 2006, Edgewater, MD: The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) recently confirmed the election of new Board Directors at its annual meeting held in Miami, FL. Representing key segments of the recreational marine industry, ABYC's Board of Directors provides strategic direction and guidance in furthering ABYC's core mission of developing standards, safety guidelines and supporting workforce education and training programs for small craft, marine professionals and the boating public.
With past Board Directors Mike Burlingham, VP of Service for MarineMax, Greg Eck, Manager of Marine Products for Yanmar, Jack Flaig, Consultant, Bombardier Recreational Products and Al Weinstein retiring from their three-year terms, Dennis Graham Chair of the ABYC Board officially welcomed and introduced returning Board Director Chris Washburn, Owner of Washburn's Boat Yard and the new incoming Board Directors, Richard Kolb, Brett McGill, Lorenzo Pollicardo and Jack Westerbeke.
Richard Kolb Manager, Emissions Regulations & Parts and Accessory Engineering, Volvo Penta of the Americas, Chesapeake, VA
Rich has over 30 years of experience in the marine industry working on engines, engine controls, fuel systems, exhaust emissions and propulsion control systems. He has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and a Master's degree in Engineering Management from Northwestern University. He is the holder of over 30 patents, and is a long-time member of ABYC. Rich has served on numerous ABYC project technical committees and sub-committees, and is currently a member of the Steering and Controls PTC, as well as a Division Director on the ABYC Technical Board.
Brett McGill VP Service & Parts and Information Technology, MarineMax, Inc., Clearwater, FL
Brett has had an active role with MarineMax since 1998, beginning with it's formation, the consolidation of 28 nationwide stores (now numbering 67) and ultimately going public with a listing on the New York Stock Exchange. His personal, managerial and strategic contributions have assisted MarineMax achieve it's exceptional growth in becoming the largest recreational boat retailer/service provider in the world. In addition, Brett has developed the firm's corporate training initiative - MarineMax University Online - as well as the Internet Marketing and eBusiness departments.
Lorenzo Pollicardo General Secretary of UCINA, Genoa, Italy
Lorenzo graduated in 1985 from the University of Genoa-Italy with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. An engineer by profession, Lorenzo is the current Chairman of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) Technical Committee and the General Secretary of UCINA, Italy. UCINA, the Italian marine industry association, is the trade association representing 300 Italian firms in the marine industry. UCINA`s mission is to promote the culture of pleasure boating, in harmony with nature, people and technology.
Jack Westerbeke President/CEO, Westerbeke Corporation
Jack earned his Bachelor's degree at Middlebury College in Vermont, majoring in physics. Following three years of service in the U.S. Army, Jack attended Harvard Business School, from which he graduated with an MBA in 1966. Jack then joined his father, Jack Westerbeke Sr., at Westerbeke Corporation which had been founded by Jack Sr. in 1937, as an engine distributor and dealer. Subsequently he began designing, manufacturing, and marketing Westerbeke name-branded marine engine products, and went on to become president of Westerbeke in 1976. Jack has continued to be heavily involved in product design, in addition to his general management functions. He is a member of SAE and his principle hobby is sailing.
Also at this meeting, the 2006 Board Officers were announced.

ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair in the United States for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians.
