Westlawn Experiences Dramatic Growth After
Transfer to ABYC
February 23, 2004, Edgewater, MD: Since the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) acquired the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) in May of 2003, Westlawn has experienced dramatic growth. In the past nine months, from May 1, 2003 through January 31, 2004, enrollment in Westlawn has increased by over 60% when compared to the previous year.
In addition to the increase in enrollment, below is a list of accomplishments that have occurred over the past nine months:
- Westlawn has graduated 36 students from it's four Modules;
- Two Westlawn students have gone on to positions at prominent design offices: Farr International and the Oracle BMW Racing's America's Cup Team;
- A completely upgraded CAD policy and curriculum has been put in place, ensuring that Westlawn graduates will be proficient in the latest in CAD drawing, hull fairing and advanced 3D modeling technology;
- The integration of Westlawn with ABYC has led to numerous additional benefits to Westlawn students, including, ABYC membership and the inclusion of ABYC standards in the Westlawn course materials;
- Availability of new proper spline weights for traditional marine drafting;
- Discounts on Westlawn tuition for ABYC members; and
- With the combination of the ABYC and Westlawn libraries, ABYC now has one of THE largest, most comprehensive library of cataloged books dedicated to boats, boat design and boating safety that is available for public use!
