ABYC Takes Training Down Under
March 29 - April 1, 2004

As part of it's Convenience Learning Program, the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) conducted an Electrical Certification course at Riviera Marine based at Coomera on Queensland's Gold Coast of Australia. In addition to their own employees and apprentices, Riviera Marine, a manufacturer of luxury and sports cruisers, acted as a host facility for other area boat builders who wanted to attend the certification course.

Ed Sherman, ABYC's Senior Instructor, covered topics such as Electrical Theory, Lead-Acid Batteries, Using a Multi-meter, Battery Testing, Generator Sets, Inverters, Grounding and Bonding Systems, and Troubleshooting. On the final day, students were able to take a 200 question certification test.

As you can see from the pictures below, a major benefit of conducting on-site training at a marine facility is the location, which offers the opportunity to give specific demonstrations and hands-on training in addition to classroom instruction.
