Bunzl Boating Safety Award
Because Richard Bunzl is such a strong supporter of ABYC, the prestigious Bunzl Boating Safety Award is presented in his honor whenever qualified candidates are found.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Any permanent resident of the United States and Territories.
- If the nomination is for contributions to the safety of the boating public:
- The person nominated must not be receiving pay for the activity cited as deserving of recognition. (Reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses is not considered pay in this context.)
- The individual nominated must have been performing the boating safety activities directly or, in the case of an administrative activity, must have been directly responsible for supervising those persons actually performing the boating safety activities.
- The activity cited must have been performed for a period of at least five years unless this requirement is waived with the approval of the sponsor.
- The nomination must cite specific actions, decisions, or other contributions made beyond the day-to-day maintenance of an existing program. The nominee must have been responsible for an improvement in boating safety.
- If the nomination is for a singular act of great personal sacrifice or heroism the restriction in 2a. concerning pay does not apply:
- The nominee must have been exposed to the imminent danger of serious personal injury or substantial financial loss. The situation described must have required a heroic physical effort or seamanship of the highest order to avoid tragedy or loss of a vessel.
