Education and Certification Programs

"Workforce Development, Incumbent Worker Training
and Workforce Investment Boards

This is a brief overview of federal Training dollars that may be available to you, your business, or your Marine Trades Association that can be used to pay for ABYC education classes. This overview is brief because a lot of the exact application and administration of these funds varies from county to county across the United States. We will help you as much as we can to get you this money.

The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 stated the purpose of these funds was;

    "The purpose of this (act) is to provide workforce investment activities, through statewide and local workforce investment systems, that increase the employment, retention, and earnings of participants, and increase occupational skill attainment by participants, and, as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation."

These funds are available to your business for you to use to train and certify your workers. These funds are administered by local county based Workforce Development Boards. We have developed a database of these workforce development boards from states around the country. We link to this database at the bottom of this page. Please check the database for contact information to your board. If your board is not there, email me (mnew@abycinc.org) and I will get you the information.

These funds can be an important part of the success of your business. The catch is that ABYC cannot apply for these funds. They must be applied for by a local company of group of companies. We have seen entire classes paid for by these funds and we have seen individuals trained by these funds. The money is available and all you have to do is apply for it. We are here to help you.

ABYC classes can be paid for with these workforce development dollars. We will work with you to help your company or group receive these dollars for your workers education.

Click here to open a link to the registration process as written by Rhode Island. This will give you a good idea of the process for most states. All states are using the same federal dollars generated from the same federal law so this description should be very similar to the process in your home state.

Click here to open a link to an Excel spreadsheet that is under continual development listing "Workforce Development Boards" county by county, around the country. So far we have listed every county for California, Florida, and Rhode Island. We have started Maine and several other states. We will keep working at this. We want you to start using this. Please apply for these dollars to pay for ABYC training for your workers today. Email me if you have any information that can be added (mnew@abycinc.org)"
