Gasoline Engine and Support Systems Certification
This four-day program is designed for the experienced marine gasoline technician. It is intended to supplement factory sponsored engine specific courses and certifications with an industry recognized generic certification of knowledge for troubleshooting and engine and drive installations. The course will cover the following as it pertains to gasoline engines, both inboard and outboard: cooling systems, electrical systems, fuel systems, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, control systems, ignition systems and drive systems. Additionally, extensive coverage of both ABYC Standards and USCG requirements as they apply to gasoline fueled engines of all types will be provided. At registration, each student is sent a course study guide, which should be reviewed prior to class. The class concludes with a 200 question certification exam.
The ABYC standards, ABYC study guide, and your class notes may be referred to during this exam. The current ABYC Standards are available to members on-Line via (WebStir), CD, or as a book. The use of laptop computers, calculators or mobile phones (with a calculator app) will be allowed during the exam, however anyone caught texting or engaging in any sort of photography during the exam will be immediately ejected from the class. Candidates removed from class for any ethical violation will not be refunded tuition or test fees.
All candidates need to supply their own #2 lead pencil for filling out the exam answer sheet.
Standards specific to this certification, and that the certification candidate may want to review or have access to during the exam include: A-24, A-33, E-2, E-10, E-11, H-2, H-24, H-25, H-26, P-1, P-4, P-14, P-24, S-12 and S-30.
