The ABYC Train the Trainer course is designed to help ensure continuity of training methods among all those presenting on behalf of the ABYC, as well as for instructors who are attempting to integrate ABYC Standards based material into their newly designed or existing marine trade curricula. During this four-day program the participant will be introduced to nine key topic areas relative to effective presentation of technical material. The topic areas include: Course development, creating a balance between background/fundamental information and "need to know" points for a given topic; How to work with limited visual resources to optimize educational opportunities for visual learners; Using Microsoft PowerPoint to create effective presentations, do's and don'ts; Timing the presentation; Working with the ABYC Standards and Adobe Acrobat to present Standards-based material; Understanding the ABYC Standards development process and how this impacts the final product; How to convey the ABYC philosophy and mission without interjecting personal bias; How to work effectively with adult learners including Identification of the classic learning styles and how to satisfy the separate needs dictated by these styles into a technical training presentation; Basic classroom management techniques; The basics of how the presenter impacts the learning experience, using your voice effectively, body language, white board skills.

As part of this program, each participant will be required to create a mini-presentation, limited to fifteen minutes on an assigned topic and will be required to present to the class. The presentation will be video recorded, and then critiqued by the class. Students will be required to supply their own laptop computer for the presentation. Projection and video equipment will be provided by the ABYC.
