About ABYC

WHY ABYC?

As a responsible boat owner or potential buyer, we believe that it is important that you determine what repair yards, marinas, dealers, surveyors and manufacturers are members of ABYC and who among their staff has earned one or more ABYC certifications.

This online directory is designed to be used as a tool to help you in that search. In a matter of key strokes, you can use our online Business Member Directory to:

  • Determine if the company who built your boat is a member of ABYC
  • Determine if the boat yard, marina or repairperson who is going to repair your boat is an ABYC member
  • Find a surveyor to either assess damage in preparation for repairs or to inspect a boat you intend to purchase

Why Should You Insist on Utilizing an ABYC Member?

  1. As a responsible boat owner or buyer, you know the economic and recreational value you place on your boat. Most certainly, at some point you will be placed in the position to employ a reputable professional to work on, maintain or make repairs or improvements to your craft. It is your responsibility to insist that he or she accomplishes their work to ABYC standards. By not insisting on work accomplished in accordance to ABYC standards, you are simply missing the boat, and could in-fact be putting you and your passengers at risk.

  2. ABYC standards level the playing field for consumers and service facilities alike when comparing quoted work or simple value for one's money. In the absence of ABYC standards, it is difficult to compare the work and resultant expense from one facility to another. Provided the work is of high quality and compliant with ABYC standards, comparisons are more valid and meaningful.

  3. By having knowledge of ABYC and asking if the person building, repairing or surveying your boat is an ABYC member, you are taking the first step towards mitigating the risk of costly or potentially life threatening mistakes.
